Aruban Officials Make Arrest in Natalee Holloway Case
ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Authorities have made an arrest in the case of a young Alabama woman who disappeared while vacationing in Aruba, an Aruban official said Saturday.
Mariaine Croes, a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office, said Aruban authorities were not prepared to disclose why the person was arrested. Croes also would not say how the arrest was linked to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway nearly a year ago, on the final night of her high school graduation trip to the Dutch Caribbean island.
Croes would only say that the person who was arrested is 19 and has the initials "G.V.C." In Aruba, when an arrest is announced, officials usually release only a suspect's initials, and not a full name.
Holloway, an 18-year-old honors student from Mountain Brook, Ala., was last seen on May 30, 2005, leaving an Aruba bar with Dutch national Joran van der Sloot and Surinamese brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. The young men were arrested in June but were released after a court ruled there was not enough evidence to hold them.
There have been a number of false leads in the investigation, and at least three other people were detained without being charged in the case.

Talking of hate... I don't think I have seen so much hate and spleen expended against anything on the net as has been expended on Joran, and by association anyone who tries to look past Beth's matra of "he lied therefore he raped and murdered Natalee".
It's a conclusion that isn't ruled out by the known facts, BUT it would be one hell of a trick given the limited time frame.
Another conclusion that isn't ruled out by the facts is that Joran indeed left her sitting on the beach, and that she then went for a last swim, in the dark, and somewhat intoxicated, and she got into difficulties and drowned. All on her own.
But then we would have to revise our image of the "perfect" Natalee to a more average teenager who did something unwise. And who do you blame then? What vehicle does that leave for patriotic and parental tub-thumping?
Fact is most so-called "friends" of Natalee by association have shown themselves to be narrow-minded bigots. One answer, and one answer ONLY. To them an innocent accident simply isn't possible. A strong case requires no such fury; it speaks loudly for itself.
This isn't a search for "justice" or "truth" but a lynch-mob mentality hell-bent on revenge, even if the object of that revenge might happen to be innocent of harming her.
I look at pictures of Natalee at parties posted on the net and ask myself what type of girl would have friends who have shown themselves so filled with bile and venom; who denounce anyone who is trying to keep an open mind with so little material evidence to go on, as Natalee "haters". As a good maths student do you think she would be content with the illogic of this reasoning?
Frankly the people using her as part of some personal crusade are the ones who have sullied her name and memory. I would like to think she really was a nice person who would be *mortified* by the lynch-mob that has gathered around her name.
Jumping to premature conclusions based on virtually no evidence at all is not the way to find the *truth* (specifically, what really happened to Natalee that night). The truth is not what the majority think, it's not a democracy, or HOW LOUD YOU YELL, it's what actually happened.
But there are a very few items of actual evidence from that night we can examine, yet almost all of the "theories" advanced simply ignore even those items.
"She was buried..." Really? Try a reinactment and see how long it takes to dig a big enough hole, even using tools, in dry or wet sand.
"She was taken by boat..." All boats accounted for and nothing on the coastal radar tapes. Well perhaps she was kidnapped by a White Slavers' submarine.
We've even seen the people try to "improve" the evidence (e.g. the doctored Dr.Phil tape; Beth claiming she has incriminating statements then can't produce them, etc). Yet when statements conflict going back to the material evidence is all you have left.
Go back to that night, look at what little we really know, then tell us how it is impossible for her to have died by misadventure after she was left alone.
You simply can't because it isn't. There is not a single item of evidence to rule it out - only prejudice.
Spitting venom at all and sundry does nothing to illuminate the mystery. It only makes neutral readers antipathetic to Natalee's fate. Boycotting Aruba and all the rest is simply scoring an 'own goal'.
Beating the Arubans is futile because they don't know either. And beating Joran is also futile because he will tell you what you want to hear, not the truth. If the truth is that he left her sitting on the beach you would simply go on beating him - right? Until he "confessed". This is what they do in dictatorships, then they have a show trial and a quick execution - all neat and tidy. Is that the "truth" you want?
If, by some faint chance, Natalee turned up alive tomorrow there would be a very interesting court sequel for the various slanders launched against all and sundry by the family, media, and not a few bloggers.
After all this hate on her behalf, I live in hope.
